St Kilda Football Club
One of the clubs that helped form the Australian Football League in 1990 was the St. Kilda Football Club, which was originally a member of the Victorian Football League.
The Saints are one of the 18 clubs that take part in the national championship. They have more than 40,000 members and are an important part of the community in the southern part of Melbourne, which stretches from Port Melbourne to Portsea.
The Saints have also announced that they would begin fielding a team in the AFL Women’s competition beginning in the year 2020. This move will assist change the face of football in the region.
The club is also active in the Victorian Wheelchair Football League and is linked with Sandringham in the Victorian Football League (VFL). As a result of this affiliation, players who aren’t picked for the Saints on a given weekend are allowed to wear the Zebras sweater instead.
St. Kilda was established in 1873, and the club has a long and illustrious history that has been shaped by champions like as Darrel Baldock, Trevor Barker, and most recently Nick Riewoldt.
Before shifting the club’s training and administrative base to Moorabbin in 1964, the Saints had their home ground at Junction Oval in St. Kilda. Junction Oval is located in St. Kilda.
1966 was the year that St. Kilda achieved its greatest level of success, culminating in the club’s first and only premiership victory.
The Saints were one of the strongest teams between the years 2004 and 2012, competing for two flags in 2009 (against Geelong) and 2010 (against Collingwood). During that time, they won more games than any other team, making them the clear favorite to take home both titles.
Since St. Kilda relocated its administrative and training headquarters to Seaford in 2011, the reconstruction of RSEA Park in Linton Street, Moorabbin, has been made possible as a result of this transfer.
In 2018, the Saints relocated their headquarters to Moorabbin, their spiritual home, where they now occupy a brand-new $40 million facility that is on par with any other in Australian sport.
As part of the club’s commitment to the community, the Sandringham Dragons, the Southern Football League, and the South Metro Junior Football League all use the state-of-the-art facilities that the club maintains.
The Saints are very proud of their commitment, which includes a number of different programs that have been developed to encourage inclusiveness and provide an opportunity for every young footballer in the region to attain their full potential.
