Every day, eggs are transported from the layer sheds to the grading floor. There is no storage. We use the most up-to-date technology in the industry to grade, pack, and dispatch eggs daily to ensure that our customers receive the best quality eggs. Tamarix offers a variety of eggs in filler packets for foodservice industries such as catering, bakery, and distribution.
Animal Welfare & Food Safety
Tamarix Poultry Farm, as well as our suppliers, adhere to the ‘Model Code of Practices for the Welfare of Animals- Domestic Poultry’ and the food safety codes. HACCP Principles & Applications are adhered to. We are also in compliance with Egg Standards of Australia’s (ESA) “Rearing & Laying”, and “Grading & Packing,” which is an industry voluntary quality control program. To ensure that we maintain the highest quality standards, these are recertified each year.

Tamarix has no doubt about our priorities. We understand that the exceptional quality of our eggs depends on raising the most healthy and contented hens. Our hens are raised right from the moment they arrive at our farm as tiny chicks.

Feeds
It’s not easy to be a top producer of delicious eggs. But Tamarix has done it. Our specially formulated feed is the secret to Tamarix’s delicious taste.
Our feed is designed by animal nutritionists and packed with balanced vitamins, minerals. Our eggs are made from wheat, barley and maize, as well as other plant foods, to give them their signature golden yolk.
We know that the feed we give our hens is good for their health and our own.
Why are ‘Caged Eggs’ so popular?
Contrary to popular belief free-range eggs are not always better than those from large-scale egg production.
Going cage-free can pose a host of problems, including the possibility of hens injuring each other and exposure to wildlife predators or crippling diseases.
Without close supervision and control, animal mortality rates are higher.

Our History
Gus, Alma, and their family moved further out to a farm in the fast-growing Dandenong South Area as Melbourne continued its expansion. This is still the home of Tamarix Poultry Pty Ltd, although the company has expanded in the area.
As many other post-World War 2 immigrants, Agostino “Gus” Postregna came from north east Italy to start a new life in Australia.
Alma, his wife, worked many menial and hard jobs while he raised a family. In the 1960s, they leased a Keysborough property that produced both eggs and chickens.
They worked hard and were able to purchase more land in partnership with extended family members, including Julian and Damian Gus’ brothers. The family took different paths in the 1970s, but all were still connected to the poultry industry.
