Recycling is a great way to save our environment and enjoy the warm summer. It’s not only about saving the Earth but also about helping your wallet. During summers, we buy more appliances and furniture, which makes us accumulate much more metal than during other seasons.
Recycling for this summer may be even easier as you can put all the metal in your house into one bag and take it to the recycling station. Let’s be honest, when you are on vacation, do you really want to spend more time sorting out the metal than enjoying the sun?
We have prepared for you a list of Top 5 Metal Recycling Tips that will make summer even more fashionable!
Get a family-size bag.
Of course, the first and most important tip is to get a large enough bag. A whole summer of metal accumulation will hardly fit into a litre-sized bag. Buy yourself a big garbage can or use those big black bags that they offer for free at the recycling station – make sure it’s not too heavy to carry and can be closed tightly.
Make a list of all the metal you own
There is no way that we could go through all your closets and drawers and choose what to recycle and what not to recycle for you, so it’s up to you to do this task properly. You need to find out where your metals are exactly, and we recommend you make a list. We have the list in our recycling stations where you can check out your metals for free or even get some money!
Sort it carefully!
Furniture is probably the thing that mostly accumulates during warmer seasons, so sort it well before taking it to the recycling station. Make sure that you sort out the bigger pieces of furniture first (e.g. cabinets, chairs) because if they don’t fit into your bag, there is no point bringing other things. Also, make sure to sort out the smaller but heavier parts (metal bars, rods) before lighter parts like metallic papers or fabrics.
Do not bring electronics.
There are some rules that you need to follow in order to take the metal into recycling stations. You need to sort out non-ferrous metals (aluminium, copper etc.) and separate them from ferrous metals (iron, steel). If you bring electronic appliances like washing machines or dishwashers, their motors will be considered as ferrous metals and will be forbidden as they contain hazardous material.
Ask us what you can bring.
If you have metal furniture or appliances that don’t fit into your bag or feel like you should ask someone before taking them, visit the recycling station to check if we accept those items. We love visitors, so please come! And when you see us, say hello and ask whatever you want!
